DO YOU KNOW YOU CAN COME TO THE UK OR USA TO STUDY WITH YOUR DEPENDANT?

Most times, people think that this opportunity is open to only Canadian immigration system alone but that's not the truth.
As an international student on a post graduate study, you are eligible to bring your dependent to stay with you over the period of your study. If you're on a scholarship, be it partial or fully funded, you're even much opportune to explore this option.

Since 5 October 2020, 'Tier 4 (General)' leave has become 'Student' permission and 'Tier 4 (Child)' leave has become 'Child student' permission. 'Student' includes Tier 4 (General) and 'Child student' includes Tier 4 (Child). Students can have family with them in the UK as their dependents.

Who is your dependent?

Your partner and your child can be your Student dependent. Your parents, brother, sister or other relative CANNOT.

Requirements:

1. Already have your Student immigration permission (except in the case of (3) in 'Which Students can have dependents' where both the dependent and Student must be applying at the same time).

2. Are applying at the same time as your dependent(s) (both/all of you need to be making your applications outside the UK OR both/all of need you making your applications from inside the UK)

3. You must show proof of funds that you have enough money to take care of your studies and living expenses and as well carter for the welfare of your dependent.

There is an exception to this requirement if a government, the British Council, an international organization, an international company or a university, or an independent school is giving you money to cover your course fees or living costs.

In that case, ask if they are prepared to give you a letter stating that they will cover the full maintenance costs of your dependent. If they will, then that letter on its own will mean that your dependent has met the financial requirements.

There will be no requirement for them to show that they have any money at all in a bank or building society account, or in an account with an officially regulated financial institution.
