STUDY IN SWEDEN
Sweden is located in the very North of Europe, in between Finland and Norway. It is home to a number of internationally successful corporations – think Volvo, IKEA or H&M – but also to some of the most exciting startups of recent years – think Skype or Spotify.
The
internationality of such employers as well as the high proficiency of English
among Swedes make it fairly easy for qualified international graduates to get
their foot in the door of the Swedish job market, even when their knowledge of
Swedish is limited.
Sweden's
government has also put an effort into decreasing red tape for foreign
nationals looking to join the local workforce. Studying in Sweden is free of
charge for citizens of the EU/EEA and those with a permanent Swedish residence
permit. However, international students are expected to pay for their study and
living expenses while in Sweden.
As its Nordic neighbors,
Sweden is known for freezing winters and short mild summers. While the winters
are long and dark, the summers are particularly rewarding when the sky never
really goes dark. In late/mid-June, Swedes celebrate the summer solstice,
called "midsommar".
There are a
number of scholarships available for international students who want to study
in Sweden. One of them is the Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global
Professionals. It is a fully funded scholarship for 42 countries of the world,
of which most African countries are among, including Nigeria.

Application
opens by February 10, 2022.
Application to
higher education in Sweden is a bit different from the method used in other
European countries. Sweden has one governing body that receives all
applications for different universities in the country. In other words, you
cannot apply directly to the school you want. All applications must go through
the education agency University
Admission. If qualified, your details will then be sent to the designated
university or universities as the case may be. It doesn't matter the number of
applications you're sending, only one application fee covers you. Isn't that
amazing?
