Study in Taiwan

Situated at the middle of the island chain, between Japan and the Philippines, is the island of Taiwan. Taiwan has an outstanding higher education system that provides opportunities for international students to study a wide variety of subjects, ranging from tropical agriculture to forestry, genetic engineering, business, semiconductors, and more.

Although Taiwan’s higher education system has gained recognition for its achievements in many areas, tuition remains very reasonable. Taiwan has favorable living conditions and lower tuition rates compared to western countries.

Taiwanese public universities have affordable courses, which start at around 700 EUR per academic year. The highest you can expect to pay is around 13,000 EUR per year, but only for specific disciplines.

All schools, including higher education institutions, focus on Technological and Vocational Education (TVE), which involves matching the industries’ workforce demand and student abilities in a way that leads and highly contributes to Taiwan’s economic development and prosperity.

Taiwan’s most popular university subject areas are engineering and technology, social sciences and management. Students are especially attracted to these disciplines due to Taiwan’s exceptional tradition in business and technology, being a leading supplier of computer chips, smart phones and GPS devices.

However, International students can choose between programmes that are 50% or 100% in English. At public universities, international students usually pay between 680–12,700 EUR per academic year. On average, students need around 570–850 EUR per month to cover their living costs.

In summary, for the issue of a post-graduate work permit, it is known as Alien Resident Certificate in Taiwan. Taiwanese law allows international students to extend their stay for 6 months right after graduation.

If international students are in the middle of a job search or need more time to complete their work permit Taiwan application, they can apply for another six-month extension making it a total of 12 months extension.

With this information, I hope you will be able to consider Taiwan as your study destination. Check out other content on the blog for various study destinations you can choose from.
